Brandy Wows On The Billboard White Carpet

Okay, so I lied when I said I wasn’t posting anything else about the Billboard Music Awards…but Brandy looked too damn fierce to not address.

Miss Norwood worked the white carpet in a short dress by Herve Leger with gold Christian Louboutin pumps, and looked absolutely amazing! Everything about this look (including hair and makeup) was just completely on point. Props to whoever is styling Bran these days, because she’s never looked better.

John Legend & Jordin Sparks Pay Tribute To Whitney Houston At Billboard Awards

First of all, this is the ONLY thing I’m posting about the Billboard Music Awards because I personally thought the whole show was a damn snoozefest.

Anyway, John Legend and Jordin Sparks took the stage at the MGM Grand this evening to honor the late, great Whitney Houston. John performed “The Greatest Love of All,” and Miss Sparks tackled the iconic “I Will Always Love You.” Neither singer did a bad job, but all-in-all I’d call the tribute average. Jordin’s definitely no J-Hud or Amber Riley, but she held her own covering the classic.

After the performances, Billboard honored Whitney with their Millennium Award, and a teary-eyed Bobbi Kristina accepted on her mother’s behalf. (I swear I don’t know how that girl keeps it together so well, ’cause I’d be a hot ass mess still.)

Hit the break to check out the full tribute.

Nicki Minaj’s Over-The-Top Grammy Performance

Alright, here goes…

I love me some Nicki. I’ve been rockin’ with her since the mixtape days; I’m no Stan, but I definitely have supported her through the years. With that said, her performance of “Roman Holiday” at tonight’s Grammy Awards left me with an enormous blank stare.

Debuting a new song for that type of an audience is definitely ballsy, and it’s clear she was trying to get everyone talking. However, for me at least, it was TOO DAMN MUCH. Too controversial, too all over the place, and just too WTF? I understand that artists evolve over time and their style changes, but this performance solidified that “Old Nicki” is dead and gone.

Now am I saying that I’m done with Nicki? Absolutely not. There just needs to be some type of a balance. Miss Minaj needs to find a way to keep that Gaga-ish pop star vibe going without alienating the hip hop fans. I can’t lie, I’m still anxious to see what she’ll bring to the table with this next album, I just hope this trend of disappointment doesn’t continue.

What do you guys think? Are you with me, or did you love the performance?

J. Hud Pays Tribute To Whitney Houston

In what was by far the highlight of the evening, Jennifer Hudson took the Grammy stage to pay tribute to the legendary Whitney Houston. Although the tribute was a lot shorter than I had hoped it would be, J. Hud’s rendition of “I Will Always Love You” definitely did Miss Houston justice.

In case you missed it, check out the full performance below, and make sure to post your thoughts.

Rihanna Slays The Grammy Red Carpet

rihanna-01

Without a doubt, my favorite look from this year’s Grammys came from none other than Rihanna. In a gorgeous, curve-hugging Armani gown and Louboutins on her feet, RiRi absolutely killed the red carpet!

The newly blonde bombshell was escorted to the awards by her father and lil’ brother, both looking super dapper as well.

Check out more pics after the break.

Nicki Minaj Honored With Billboard’s Rising Star Award

Shortly after dropping her new single “Roman in Moscow” on Friday, Nicki Minaj was honored at Billboard‘s annual Women in Music event. The superstar femcee was named 2011′s “Rising Star,” and she took the stage to humbly accept the title. It’s rare to see Nicki not overly-animated and goofy, so watching her tear up when thanking her fans really seemed genuine. She addressed the crowd, saying:

Thank you guys. I just know that I’m so incredibly grateful and thankful for a couple little kids, maybe a few million, I call them my Barbz. And I know they’re not in here today, but I know they’ll hear me say this. Barbz I love you so much for being by my side for such a long time. Billboard, thank you so much for recognizing me and even before “Super Bass” and even before Pink Friday, ’cause you believed in me even then. And I’m just really, really excited.

After accepting her award, Nicki also treated the crowd to an on-stage Q&A with Robin Roberts. Check out all of the highlights after the break.

2012 Grammys Kick Off With Nomination Concert

The 2012 Grammy nominees were announced last night, and long gone are the days of just simply holding a press conference to share this news. CBS aired a special Grammy Nominations Concert which quite honestly, probably had more of a budget than a lot of award shows period. Hosted by LL Cool J, the special included guests like Nicki Minaj, Taraji P. Henson, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry; plus performances by Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Usher, and more.

As far as this year’s nominees go, Kanye West leads the pack with seven nods, and Adele and Bruno Mars are right behind him with six each. Other notable nominees include Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay-Z, Kelly Rowland, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and J. Cole. (If I missed anyone, I swear I’m not throwing shade; I’m just multi-tasking as I write this blog!) You can check out the complete list of nominees over at the official Grammy website.

If you missed the nomination special last night, get caught up to speed after the break.

AMA Red Carpet Recap

In case you missed it, last night ABC aired the 2011 American Music Awards. For whatever reason the AMAs have never been one of the award shows that I’m pressed to watch, and this year was no exception. I’d be lying to you if I said me and my A.D.D. sat through the entire show, but I did catch bits and pieces. (There’s only so much of Taylor Swift’s “OMG I won again?” blow up doll face that I can take.) But if you’re interested in checking out any of the lackluster efforts performances, you can find them all here.

However, the one thing that did catch my eye throughout the evening was the fashion. From Nicki Minaj’s fierce Alexander McQueen heels (they were hot as hell even though she couldn’t walk in them) to Bieber’s classed-up Leo DiCaprio look; the stars’ stylists were definitely working overtime.

Royce Da 5’9″ Breaks Down ‘Hi Rihanna’ Line

If you didn’t catch the BET Hip Hop Awards this past Tuesday, you may have been scratching your head and wondering why “Hi Rihanna” was trending on Twitter for what seemed like an eternity. During one of the cypher segments of the show, Detroit MC Royce Da 5’9″ stole the spotlight with that one simple line (even getting Rihanna to send a response via Twitter).

Royce then stopped by BET’s 106 & Park the next day and broke down where the line came from:

I seen her overseas. Me and Em were performing at the V Festival and she was coming out to perform with us. And she seen me and she came up to me. Like I’m just a Detroit guy, like everybody’s treatin’ me like I’m famous now, but I still feel regular. So she came up to me and told me that she liked one of my songs. So I just felt like, you know, if you tell me that again and we go together. It has to happen.

So you know I express myself through my music, I just thought it was a line I was gonna say. I didn’t know if she was gonna hear it or what. But I didn’t know it was gonna become this trending for 20 hours or whatever.

Check out Royce’s full interview below, plus the Shady 2.0 cypher.
