Nicki Minaj Talks Summer Jam With The Breakfast Club

First off, as a morning radio host myself, let me just to tell you how damn much I love “The Breakfast Club!” That’s the type of radio I dream about doing one day, so I have tons of respect for Angela Yee, Charlamagne, and DJ Envy.

So anyway, after this weekend’s Summer Jam fiasco and Nicki Minaj‘s subsequent interview with Funkmaster Flex, Nicki called into Power 105.1′s morning show to further discuss the issue. (And we all know it’s no coincidence that their show is in direct competition with Peter Rosenberg over on Hot 97.)

During the interview Miss Minaj once again stood by her decision to pull out of the show, thanked all of her fellow artists for their support, and guaranteed her fans that a free concert is still in the works. (Of course there was Lil’ Kim shade too, but is anyone surprised by that?)

The only thing that did surprise me about the interview was when Nicki said she had no intentions of performing “Starships” during her set anyway.  It definitely made Rosenberg look a little worse, BUT how many of us actually believe that? I love ya Nick, but not performing your biggest single at the moment just seems silly as hell.

Nicki Minaj Breaks Down Summer Jam Issue With Funkmaster Flex

After threatening to “end her career” last night, I was actually kind of shocked that Nicki would even give Funkmaster Flex the time of day, but the First Lady of Young Money called into Hot 97 earlier tonight to address the elephant in the room known as Summer Jam…and let me tell you, she WENT IN!

It’s no secret that I’ve been a Nicki Minaj fan from the jump, but like Peter Rosenberg, I’m not a huge fan of the pop direction she’s been going in lately. But with that said, after listening to this interview none of that even matters to me. Nicki held her own through Flex’s gassed up rants, made clear and valid points, genuinely apologized to her fans, and I respect the hell out of her for all of that.

The three-part interview is a bit lengthy, but it’s worth the listen. It’s definitely clear that Nicki DOES NOT PLAY.

Lil’ Kim Drops By The Breakfast Club; Talks Biggie, Nicki & Azealia Banks

In case you missed it, Lil’ Kim dropped by Power 105.1 in New York Thursday (May 17) morning and chopped it up with the Breakfast Club. Never ones to hold back, Charlamagne, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy came at Kim with the questions everyone’s been dying to know the answers to. Everything from her past relationships, to plastic surgery, and of course the numerous “beefs” with other female emcees; nothing was off limits.

They definitely grilled the sh*t outta Kimmy, but she held her own and gave a damn good interview. I grew up on Kim so I’ll always have love and respect for her, and this interview really just renewed that for me.

Whether you love her or hate her, I’d say it’s absolutely worth your time to check it out.

Elle Varner Performs “Only Wanna Give It To You” & “So Fly”

In an industry full of carbon copies and studio-only singers, it’s always refreshing to see an artist stepping outside of that stereotypical box and doing their own thing; and MBK/J Records recording artist Elle Varner epitomizes that. The more I hear from her, the more I’m absolutely loving her sound.

She recently stopped by 97.9 The Beat in Dallas and gave an exclusive acoustic performance of her hit single “Only Wanna Give It To You” plus another one of her tracks “So Fly.” Hit the break to check out Miss Varner doing her thing.

Elle Varner Goes Unplugged On Power 96.5

I don’t care who you are or what type of music you love, you have to recognize real, raw talent when you see it. And it’s safe to say that newcomer Elle Varner definitely has that “it” factor. The “Only Wanna Give It To You” singer stopped by the Power 96.5 studios in Lansing, Michigan and gave an impromptu, acoustic performance of her super catchy single. No auto-tune, back up track or any other gimmicks; just a beatboxer, acoustic guitar and Elle singing her ass off.

If you weren’t an Elle fan before, I have a feeling you will be after watching this.

T.I.’s First Post-Prison Interview

Now a free man, T.I. granted his first post-release interview to V-103′s Ryan Cameron show in Atlanta. During the lengthy discussion, TIP opened up about being a family man, not looking backwards, embracing social media, jumping on a track with Jay and Kanye, his upcoming reality show “documentary series” and of course he talked plenty about his music too.

Watching this interview just made me smile. The man is so damn charismatic, and you can just tell he keeps it real. He’s slick with the one-liners and punchlines too; I was rolling when he busted out the Dave Chappelle, “FIF!”

Amber Rose Pops Off On Hot 97

Amber Rose was in New York yesterday, and dropped by the Hot 97 Morning Show to chop it up with Cipha Sounds, Peter Rosenberg and K. Foxx. Amb held nothing back as she discussed the Wiz/Kanye situation, her beef with Funkmaster Flex and who would win in an “ass off” between her and Kim Kardashian.

On a hypothetical Wiz/Kanye altercation:

I think he would beat the crap out of Kanye…and I’d kick ‘em while he’s down. I’d be right there with him.

On her beef with Funk Flex:

I hate Funkmaster Flex, he’s an asshole man [...] I mean he’s just ignorant in every single way possible. He’s just an ignorant person. Like everything that he says is just rude and ignorant. When people come in to, you know, come to talk to him, he kisses everybody’s ass. Then when he leaves, he talks about everybody. I just think he’s really whack for that. When you come in the studio, be real.

On an “ass off” with Kim Kardashian:

Kim is like 5-foot-nothing, I’m 5’9″. I got way more booty than Kim.

Fabolous Chimes In About The Ray J Beef

In case you missed it, Fabolous hit up DJ Clue on Power 105.1 earlier tonight to speak his piece on this whole Ray J situation. (Remember, according to Ray, “Only DJ Clue can squash this.”)  Unlike Ray J’s Tupac-style rant, Fab’s 15 minute interview was calm, collected and pretty damn funny. In typical Fabolous style, he delivered some hilarious one-liners while recapping his side of the situation.

Just chill out Little Red Riding Hood…

Ray J Has An Indoor & Outdoor Pool (Speaks On Altercation With Fab)

In case you missed it this morning, Ray J called into Power 105.1′s The Breakfast Club to speak on the “alleged” Vegas incident between him and Fabolous. After a damn near 10-minute rambling session, all I took from it was that Ray J has more than one Rolls Royce, both an indoor AND outdoor pool, he isn’t afraid to have Fab raped in the streets and for whatever reason, only DJ Clue can squash this beef. All in all, just a hot ass mess!

Rumors were swirling that Fab would be calling Angie Martinez on Hot 97 this afternoon to respond, but Ang isn’t even on air today. My guess is that his exclusive will go to his homie Clue (who works for Power 105.1); but until then, I suggest your grab some popcorn to prepare for the inevitable f*ckery that is to come.
