It’s no secret that homophobia tends to run rampant in the hip hop community, so it’s refreshing to see an emcee (especially one as HUGE as Jay-Z) publicly support the gay community.
CNN caught up with Hov shortly after the President made his initial announcement endorsing gay marriage, and asked Mr. Carter his thoughts on the issue.
I’ve always thought it as something that’s still holding the country back. What people do in their own homes, is you know, their business. You choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.
When asked if he thought it would cost President Obama votes, Jay gave one of the best responses you could imagine.
I think it’s the right thing to do. So whether it costs him votes or not…Again, it’s really not about votes. It’s about people. So whether it costs him votes or not, I think it’s the right thing to do as a human being.
