Long before Jay-Z and Beyoncé were everyone’s favorite power couple, in a time when eyebrows were NOT on fleek, and velour jumpsuits and dark lipstick ruled the world, this little ditty called “I’ll Be” was released.
Looking back, in 1996 I was ten-freaking-years-old, so I really had NO BUSINESS listening to this (or for that matter, any clue what Ill Na Na really meant), but I loved me some Foxy Brown. This song was, and always will be one of my faves.
And to that handful of North Dakota White girls from my fourth grade class, I know that you all know the lyrics as well. You’re welcome.
